Job Description
Are you a highly skilled and safety-conscious Truck Driver with a passion for the open road and a commitment to precision deliveries? BPL Transport Services Limited is actively seeking experienced and dedicated Truck Drivers to join our dynamic transport and haulage team in Rumuogba, Port Harcourt. This full-time role offers an exciting opportunity to operate our modern fleet of heavy-duty vehicles, transporting a variety of goods across designated routes, primarily within Rivers State and sometimes to other regions in Nigeria. As a Truck Driver with BPL, you will be instrumental in maintaining the flow of essential goods and materials, playing a critical role in our supply chain operations and contributing directly to our clients’ success. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks (trailers, tankers, flatbeds) for the transport of various goods as per company and client requirements.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles, ensuring all mechanical, safety, and emergency components are in good working order.
- Ensure accurate loading, securing, and unloading of cargo, verifying contents against shipping documents and reporting any discrepancies.
- Adhere strictly to all national and company driving regulations, traffic laws, and safety standards, including speed limits and hours of service.
- Maintain detailed and accurate electronic or paper logbooks, recording driving hours, rest periods, fuel consumption, and delivery details.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and team members regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, and any on-road issues.
- Plan optimal routes using GPS and road maps, considering traffic conditions, road closures, and delivery deadlines.
- Handle all relevant paperwork (delivery notes, manifests, invoices) accurately and ensure proper sign-offs upon delivery.
- Report any vehicle malfunctions, accidents, incidents, or security concerns immediately to the appropriate channels.
- Assist with minor roadside repairs and maintenance tasks as needed, demonstrating basic mechanical aptitude.
Required Skills
- Valid Class E/F Driver's License (heavy-duty vehicles) with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience operating heavy-duty trucks in a commercial transport setting.
- Thorough knowledge of Nigerian road networks, traffic laws, and transport regulations.
- Proven ability to conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and identify mechanical issues.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) guidelines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and understand maps, GPS systems, and delivery schedules.
- Physical fitness to handle the demands of the job, including loading/unloading assistance when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Defensive Driving Certification from a recognized institution.
- Experience transporting specialized cargo (e.g., petroleum products, dangerous goods, oversized loads).
- Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting and minor vehicle maintenance.
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management software.
- Additional certifications related to health and safety in transportation.
