Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly skilled, safety-conscious, and experienced Forklift Operator to join our dynamic logistics team at our busy Rumuokwurusi terminal in Port Harcourt. As a pivotal member of our operations, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient and secure movement, loading, and unloading of diverse goods and materials within our expansive warehouse and busy yard. Key Responsibilities
- Operate various types of forklifts, including counterbalance and reach trucks, safely and efficiently to move, stack, load, and unload a wide range of materials and products.
- Perform daily comprehensive pre-operation safety checks on forklifts and promptly report any defects, malfunctions, or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
- Accurately load and unload cargo from trucks, trailers, and shipping containers, ensuring proper weight distribution, secure placement, and compliance with safety standards.
- Transport goods to and from designated storage areas, meticulously ensuring accurate inventory placement, systematic organization, and optimal space utilization.
- Actively assist in the receiving, inspection, and dispatch processes of materials, carefully verifying quantities against shipping documents and noting any discrepancies.
- Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and hazard-free warehouse and yard environment, strictly adhering to all company safety regulations and operational policies.
- Provide support with manual loading and unloading tasks when necessary, fostering effective collaboration with the broader warehouse and logistics team.
- Diligently monitor inventory levels, report any discrepancies, damages, or shortages of goods to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Strictly adhere to all health and safety standards, company procedures, and established traffic management rules within the facility at all times.
- Actively participate in ongoing training and development programs to continuously enhance forklift operating skills, safety awareness, and overall operational efficiency.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Forklift Operator in a fast-paced logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing environment.
- Possession of a valid and current forklift operator certification or license.
- Demonstrable excellent knowledge of safe forklift operation, material handling best practices, and load securement procedures.
- Strong understanding and practical application of warehouse safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in performing pre-operational checks, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting minor issues on forklifts.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25kg) and perform physically demanding tasks when required.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in handling goods, managing inventory, and completing documentation.
- Ability to work effectively, efficiently, and calmly in a high-pressure, fast-paced, and dynamic operational environment.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to read labels, follow written instructions, and complete basic paperwork.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Experience operating various types of forklifts, including sit-down counterbalanced, stand-up reach, and order pickers.
- Familiarity with basic warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory tracking software.
- Previous experience working specifically within a transportation or large-scale distribution company.
