Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality individual and group instrumental/vocal lessons to students across various age groups and abilities.
  • Design and implement engaging lesson plans and curriculum materials that align with College standards and educational objectives.
  • Assess student progress regularly, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning needs.
  • Prepare students for examinations, auditions, performances, and competitions, ensuring they are technically and artistically ready.
  • Organise and lead student ensembles, choirs, and orchestras as required, fostering collaborative musical experiences.
  • Mentor students, offering guidance on practice techniques, performance preparation, career pathways, and general artistic development.
  • Contribute to the development and review of music education programmes and departmental initiatives, driving continuous improvement.
  • Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and College events, enhancing the community spirit.
  • Maintain detailed records of student attendance, progress, and achievement, ensuring transparent and consistent tracking.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance cross-disciplinary learning and artistic projects, fostering a holistic educational approach.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional proficiency on at least one primary instrument/voice (classical or contemporary).
  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in teaching music across various age groups and skill levels.
  • Strong pedagogical skills with a deep understanding of music theory, harmony, history, and aural training.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills, capable of inspiring diverse learners.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students in a creative, supportive, and challenging learning environment.
  • Proficiency in music software and technology (e.g., notation software, DAWs) is a significant advantage.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Performance, or a closely related field from a reputable institution.
  • Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one upon offer of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Music Education, Performance, or a related specialism.
  • Specialisation in a secondary instrument or vocal style, enhancing curriculum versatility.
  • Experience with conservatoire-level teaching or advanced music training methodologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse musical genres, cultural traditions, and contemporary music practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting ensembles, leading choirs, or directing orchestral groups.
