Job Description
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Long Distance Truck Drivers to join our dynamic team in Likasi, Haut-Katanga Province. This critical role involves the safe and efficient transportation of various goods, often over extensive distances within the Democratic Republic of Congo and potentially to neighboring countries. As a Long Distance Truck Driver for Bolloré Logistics, you will be a vital link in our robust supply chain, ensuring timely deliveries, adhering to stringent safety protocols, and maintaining the integrity of our cargo. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of vehicle mechanics, excellent navigation skills, and the ability to operate heavy-duty vehicles under diverse road and weather conditions. You will be responsible for not only driving but also for conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, managing load security, and meticulously completing all necessary documentation. This position demands a high level of responsibility, reliability, and a commitment to professional excellence, often involving long hours on the road and independent problem-solving. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks, including tractor-trailers, for long-distance routes within DRC and potentially across international borders.
- Conduct comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
- Ensure proper loading, securing, and unloading of cargo, verifying accuracy against manifests.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper logbooks, delivery manifests, mileage reports, and all other required documentation.
- Adhere strictly to all national and international traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, clients, and other team members regarding delivery schedules, delays, and any on-road issues.
- Perform minor mechanical repairs and routine maintenance tasks on the vehicle as necessary while on route.
- Navigate routes efficiently, utilizing GPS and maps to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
- Represent Bolloré Logistics professionally at all times, including at loading/unloading points and border crossings.
- Manage documentation for customs clearance, border crossing procedures, and proof of delivery.
Required Skills
- Valid Heavy-Duty Truck Driver's License (Category C/CE or equivalent in DRC).
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience in long-distance heavy vehicle driving.
- Clean driving record with no major accidents or violations.
- Proficiency in French and Swahili (both verbal and written).
- Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics, basic troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
- Ability to operate vehicles safely in diverse terrains and weather conditions.
- Physical stamina and ability to sit for long periods, as well as lift heavy objects when required.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- High level of responsibility and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hazardous materials transportation (HAZMAT certification preferred).
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route optimization software.
- Proven track record of safe driving and adherence to all regulations.
- Basic knowledge of English to communicate with diverse teams.
- Certification in defensive driving.
