Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic, customer-focused individuals to join our team as a Cashier at our Hi-Lo Food Stores location in Mona, Kingston. As the final point of contact for many of our shoppers, you play a crucial role in shaping their overall experience. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately scan and bag merchandise at the point of sale.
- Process various payment methods including cash, credit/debit cards, and loyalty points.
- Handle cash transactions, provide correct change, and reconcile cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting checkout area.
- Greet customers warmly and provide exceptional customer service, addressing inquiries and resolving minor issues.
- Promote store specials and loyalty programs to customers.
- Assist with bagging groceries efficiently and carefully.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to loss prevention and security.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members to ensure smooth store operations.
- Stay informed about product pricing, promotions, and return policies.
- Support inventory management by reporting pricing discrepancies or product availability issues.
Required Skills
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail for cash handling
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Reliability and punctuality
- Basic computer literacy for operating POS systems
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 lbs (e.g., grocery bags)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience as a Cashier or in a customer service role within a retail or supermarket setting
- Familiarity with various Point-of-Sale (POS) systems
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
