As a Safety Officer, you will be at the forefront, playing an instrumental role in the end-to-end process of developing, meticulously implementing, and rigorously monitoring robust occupational health and safety programs. Your expertise will ensure strict adherence to both Dangote Group’s stringent internal policies and all pertinent national and international safety regulations, safeguarding our most valuable asset: our people. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously monitor comprehensive occupational health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and company objectives.
  • Conduct regular and thorough site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments across various operational units to identify potential risks and ensure full compliance with safety standards.
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, preparing detailed root cause analysis reports, recommending effective corrective and preventative actions, and tracking their implementation.
  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive safety training programs to employees at all levels, covering topics such as emergency preparedness, first aid, fire prevention, safe operating procedures, and hazard communication.
  • Ensure all safety equipment, including PPE, fire extinguishers, and emergency systems, are properly maintained, inspected, calibrated, and readily available for use.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, safety data sheets (SDS), and other relevant health and safety documentation.
  • Advise management on emerging health and safety matters, changes in relevant local and international legislation, and best industry practices to ensure proactive compliance.
  • Actively promote and champion a strong safety culture throughout the organization through effective communication, awareness campaigns, safety committees, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies during inspections, audits, and permitting processes, ensuring all necessary certifications and environmental permits are current.
  • Conduct risk assessments for new projects, processes, machinery installations, and modifications, ensuring safety considerations are integrated from the initial design phase.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) role, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, or construction environment.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical application of occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, IOSH, local Nigerian Factory Act, and Environmental Laws).
  • Exceptional report writing, documentation, and record-keeping abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of identifying hazards, assessing risks, and developing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver effective safety training sessions to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and advanced competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively under pressure.
  • High level of integrity, strong ethical conduct, and a profound sense of responsibility towards employee well-being.
  • Proven track record in promoting and fostering a positive safety culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related scientific/technical field.
  • Internationally recognized professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH International General Certificate, ISPON certification, OSHA 30-hour General Industry).
  • Experience with the implementation, maintenance, and auditing of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Valid certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Knowledge of specific industry hazards related to cement production, food processing, or general heavy manufacturing operations.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and tools.
