Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care activities such as assisting with daily living needs (bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation, toileting).
- Monitor and record vital signs, intake and output, and report changes in patient condition to the supervising Registered Nurse promptly.
- Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and positioning to ensure comfort and prevent complications.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, including changing bed linens and tidying patient rooms.
- Respond to patient call lights and requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Document care provided accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record system.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and infection control guidelines.
- Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families.
- Assist with specific procedures under direct RN supervision, as delegated and within scope of practice.
Required Skills
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Rhode Island.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and patience in patient interactions.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills for documentation.
- Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely.
- Commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA).
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience as a Nursing Assistant in an acute care or long-term care setting.
- Experience with diverse patient populations.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, French Creole).
- Certification in specific specialty areas (e.g., Dementia Care, Phlebotomy).
- Prior experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic.
