Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of licensed medical professionals, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, intake/output, and other patient data accurately and promptly.
  • Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and ambulation, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Support clinical staff with various procedures, examinations, and treatments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient environment, including tidying rooms and ensuring equipment is ready for use.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, their families, and the healthcare team regarding patient status and needs.
  • Document patient care activities, observations, and changes in condition in electronic health records.
  • Respond to patient call lights and requests in a timely and compassionate manner.
  • Adhere strictly to OHSU policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of a certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), or equivalent healthcare training program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA preferred) upon hire or within 30 days.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a direct patient care role within a hospital, clinic, or long-term care setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and electronic health record systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and assist patients as required for the duration of a shift.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in a healthcare-related field.
  • Experience with specialized patient populations (e.g., pediatric, geriatric, critical care).
  • Familiarity with OHSU's EPIC electronic health record system.
  • Certifications beyond basic life support relevant to patient care (e.g., Phlebotomy, EKG).
