As a Petroleum Technician, you will be instrumental in the routine inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems vital to our petroleum storage and distribution infrastructure. Your expertise will ensure the continuous availability and optimal performance of pumps, valves, pipelines, tanks, metering systems, and associated control equipment. You will work closely with engineering, operations, and safety teams to uphold stringent industry standards, minimize downtime, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

This role demands a keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a strong commitment to safety protocols. You will be expected to conduct preventive and corrective maintenance activities, diagnose complex technical issues, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on petroleum storage tanks, pipelines, pumps, valves, and metering systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation faults in downstream processing and distribution equipment.
  • Conduct repairs and replacements of faulty components, ensuring adherence to safety standards and operational procedures.
  • Monitor equipment performance, identify potential issues, and recommend proactive solutions to prevent breakdowns.
  • Assist in the calibration and verification of metering equipment to ensure accurate product measurement and quality control.
  • Comply strictly with all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures, including Permit-to-Work systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and spare parts inventory.
  • Collaborate with engineers and operators to optimize processes and improve the reliability of plant equipment.
  • Participate in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and decommissioning activities for new or modified installations.
  • Contribute to the development and update of maintenance procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials in line with environmental regulations.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians or operational staff as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong practical experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance of industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repair of pumps, valves, piping systems, and rotating machinery.
  • Solid understanding of instrumentation and control systems (e.g., PLCs, transmitters, sensors).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
  • Excellent understanding of HSE regulations and industrial safety practices, especially in hazardous environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Competence in using various hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications for record-keeping and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant professional certification (e.g., COREN, IOSH, NEBOSH).
  • Experience with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Familiarity with specific refinery processes (e.g., distillation, cracking, blending).
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures for petroleum products.
  • Additional certifications in welding, fabrication, or hazardous area electrical work.
  • Experience with tank inspection and integrity management.
