Job Description

Access Bank Plc is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Accountant to join our dynamic Finance team in Lagos. This full-time role is crucial for maintaining the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our banking activities. As an Experienced Hire Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our financial records, contributing to robust financial reporting, and supporting strategic decision-making. You will be responsible for a wide range of accounting functions, from daily transaction processing to month-end close activities, balance sheet reconciliations, and contributing to the preparation of financial statements. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and other adjustments, in accordance with IFRS and bank policies.
  • Conduct thorough monthly and annual balance sheet reconciliations for various accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the financial reporting process by gathering data, preparing schedules, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., CBN, NDIC).
  • Participate in the budget and forecasting processes, providing insightful analysis and support to departmental heads.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing necessary documentation and explanations to facilitate audit processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal control policies.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to support management decisions and strategic initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as an Accountant, preferably within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Solid understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Proficiency in accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g., Oracle Financials, SAP).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High level of integrity and ethical conduct.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership of a recognized professional accounting body (e.g., ICAN, ACCA).
  • Experience with regulatory reporting for the Nigerian banking industry.
  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
