Job Description
We are seeking an exceptionally talented and highly motivated Product Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is a critical part of bringing Apple’s next-generation products to life, working on cutting-edge technologies and revolutionary designs. As a Product Design Engineer, you will be instrumental in the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from concept generation and detailed design to prototyping, testing, and mass production. You will be responsible for defining mechanical architectures, designing complex components, and ensuring the highest standards of quality, reliability, and manufacturability for products that will delight millions of customers worldwide. This position requires a deep understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical principles, coupled with a keen eye for aesthetics and user experience. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and development of complex product components and assemblies, from initial concept to mass production.
- Collaborate with Industrial Design to translate aesthetic vision into robust, manufacturable mechanical solutions.
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for components and sub-systems.
- Perform extensive engineering analysis, including FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for structural, thermal, and vibration performance.
- Identify and evaluate new materials, manufacturing processes, and technologies to optimize product performance, cost, and reliability.
- Design and execute comprehensive test plans to validate mechanical designs and ensure compliance with performance and reliability requirements.
- Work closely with overseas manufacturing partners to ensure smooth product ramp-up and resolve production issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in product design, DFM (Design for Manufacturability), and DFC (Design for Cost).
- Present design concepts, technical analyses, and project status to cross-functional teams and leadership.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in product design and mechanical engineering.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including statics, dynamics, materials science, and thermodynamics.
- Experience with various manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, CNC machining, stamping, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Demonstrated ability to perform tolerance analysis (GD&T) and statistical process control.
- Proven track record of shipping consumer electronics products or similar high-volume, high-precision mechanical systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with advanced simulation tools for FEA, CFD, or multi-physics analysis.
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques and technologies (e.g., 3D printing).
- Experience with design for reliability (DFR) and failure analysis.
- Knowledge of various material properties, including plastics, metals, and composites.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment.
