Job Description

Are you a highly skilled and passionate Broadcast Technician ready to shape the future of media operations? Sky Group is seeking a dedicated and experienced Broadcast Technician to join our dynamic team in Beaverdale, Des Moines. In this critical on-site role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the continuous, high-quality operation of our broadcasting systems and equipment. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide array of broadcast hardware and software, including but not limited to, video servers, studio cameras, robotic camera systems, audio consoles, routing systems, intercom systems, graphics generators, transmission equipment, encoders, decoders, and associated IT infrastructure. This multifaceted position demands a keen eye for detail, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to system upkeep, ensuring maximum uptime and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot broadcast equipment, including video switchers, audio mixers, cameras, graphic systems, encoders, decoders, and routing systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections on all broadcast and IT-related equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently during live broadcasts and pre-recorded productions.
  • Configure and maintain broadcast servers, network infrastructure, and storage solutions pertinent to media operations.
  • Calibrate and align audio and video equipment to industry standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and IT teams to plan and implement system upgrades and new technology integrations.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, maintenance logs, and repair activities.
  • Provide technical support and training to production staff as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant broadcast regulations and safety standards.
  • Stay abreast of emerging broadcast technologies and recommend improvements to existing systems.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in broadcast video and audio signal paths and standards (SDI, AES/EBU, Dante).
  • Strong understanding of broadcast infrastructure, including routers, switchers, and multi-viewers.
  • Experience with studio camera operations, calibration, and maintenance.
  • Solid knowledge of IP networking fundamentals as applied to broadcast systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a live broadcast environment.
  • Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and common office software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., SBE, AVIXA CTS).
  • Experience with specific broadcast automation systems or content management systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based broadcast technologies.
  • Experience with RF transmission systems.
