Job Description

Are you a highly motivated and experienced professional ready to make an immediate impact in humanitarian and development work? Terre des Hommes is seeking a dynamic Field Coordinator to join our dedicated team, based in Geneva, Switzerland, with frequent travel to our field operations. This crucial role involves overseeing and supporting our on-the-ground projects, ensuring their effective and efficient implementation in line with our strategic objectives and core values. The Field Coordinator will be the vital link between our headquarters and our field teams, providing operational guidance, technical support, and critical oversight to ensure program quality, accountability, and impact. You will be responsible for translating strategic plans into actionable field operations, navigating complex local contexts, and fostering strong relationships with local partners, communities, and stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the implementation of field projects, ensuring adherence to project plans, budgets, and Terre des Hommes’ standards and donor requirements.
  • Provide strong leadership, guidance, and technical support to field teams, fostering a collaborative, supportive, and high-performing environment.
  • Monitor project progress, identify challenges, and develop proactive and innovative solutions to ensure timely and effective delivery of humanitarian aid and development initiatives.
  • Ensure robust financial management and accountability of field resources, including meticulous budget tracking, expenditure monitoring, and accurate donor reporting.
  • Represent Terre des Hommes at local and national levels, building and maintaining strong, respectful relationships with partners, government authorities, and other NGOs.
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess project needs, evaluate impact, and provide on-site support and capacity building to local staff and partners.
  • Contribute significantly to the development of new project proposals, strategies, and funding applications, leveraging field insights.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety and security protocols for all field personnel and assets, prioritizing duty of care.
  • Facilitate effective communication flow between field offices and headquarters, ensuring timely reporting and information sharing.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in humanitarian or development project management, including budget oversight and team leadership.
  • Strong understanding of project cycle management (PCM) and results-based management (RBM) methodologies.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in complex, dynamic, and sometimes volatile environments.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken); knowledge of French or German is a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and critical decision-making capabilities.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in International Development, Humanitarian Aid, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Direct experience working with child protection, education, or health programs in fragile contexts.
  • Familiarity with the Swiss NGO landscape and international donor requirements and reporting standards.
  • Knowledge of local languages relevant to Terre des Hommes' operational areas (e.g., Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese).
  • Certified training in humanitarian project management, security awareness, or first aid.
