As a Data Collector, you will be on the front lines, gathering crucial information that directly informs Mcel’s strategic decisions, service improvements, and community engagement initiatives. Your work will involve conducting surveys, interviews, and observations in various settings within Maputo and surrounding areas, ensuring the highest standards of data quality and ethical conduct. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field data collection using specified methodologies (surveys, interviews, observations) in designated areas.
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and integrity by strictly adhering to data collection protocols.
- Adhere strictly to ethical guidelines and maintain confidentiality of collected information.
- Submit collected data in a timely manner using designated mobile data collection tools/platforms.
- Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding progress, challenges, and any field issues encountered.
- Participate actively in all required training sessions to enhance data collection skills and project understanding.
- Verify data entries to correct any discrepancies or errors identified during the collection process.
Required Skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Basic computer literacy and comfort with mobile data collection applications (e.g., smartphones, tablets).
- Proficiency in Portuguese (written and spoken) is essential for effective communication.
- Problem-solving aptitude and ability to adapt to varying field conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in data collection, market research, or community outreach.
- Familiarity with local Mozambican dialects (e.g., Changana, Ndau, Sena).
- Experience using mobile data collection platforms such as ODK, SurveyCTO, KoboToolbox, or similar.
- Knowledge of the local geographic area within Maputo province.
- Ability to ride a motorcycle or bicycle for field mobility (preferred, not mandatory).
