Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Compliance Officer to join our dynamic team in Chinatown, Chicago. This immediate-start role is pivotal in ensuring Hydro One’s adherence to all relevant local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, with a particular focus on the energy and utility sector’s complex legal landscape within the United States. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive compliance policies and procedures in alignment with federal, state, and local regulations relevant to the energy and utility sector.
  • Conduct regular compliance risk assessments, identifying potential areas of non-compliance and developing strategies for mitigation.
  • Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and communicate their impact to relevant departments, ensuring timely updates to internal policies and training materials.
  • Perform internal audits and investigations to assess compliance effectiveness and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provide expert compliance advice and training to employees and management on a wide range of regulatory matters.
  • Prepare and submit accurate compliance reports to senior management and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Liaise with external auditors, legal counsel, and regulatory authorities on compliance-related issues.
  • Manage and resolve compliance-related inquiries and complaints efficiently and effectively.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization's compliance framework and ethical standards.
  • Participate in the review of new business initiatives and projects to ensure compliance from the outset.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a compliance-focused role, preferably within a regulated industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks and compliance best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, ethics, and professional conduct.
  • Proficiency in compliance software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or a Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional certification such as CCEP (Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional) or CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager).
  • Experience in the energy, utility, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., CCPA, GDPR) and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering compliance training programs.
