Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented HR Assistant to join our burgeoning team in the Gold Coast area of Chicago. This is an immediate start position, requiring an individual who can hit the ground running and provide critical administrative and operational support to our Human Resources department. As an HR Assistant at Hydro One, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our HR operations, supporting our employees, and contributing to a positive work environment. This role is ideal for someone with a foundational understanding of HR principles, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for supporting people. You will be instrumental in maintaining HR records, assisting with onboarding processes, coordinating HR projects, and acting as a first point of contact for employee inquiries. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the HR department, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and preparing correspondence.
  • Assist with the end-to-end recruitment process, including posting job advertisements, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and coordinating pre-employment checks.
  • Facilitate the new employee onboarding process, preparing new hire packets, conducting orientation sessions, and ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed accurately.
  • Maintain and update employee records and HR databases, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, procedures, and benefits, or escalate as appropriate.
  • Support the planning and execution of HR programs, training sessions, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Process HR-related documentation, such as changes in employment status, salary adjustments, and termination paperwork.
  • Assist in the preparation of HR reports and presentations as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant labor laws and company policies.
  • Collaborate with various departments to support cross-functional projects and initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 1 year) in an administrative or HR support role.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a professional and approachable demeanor.
  • High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) software.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced or rapidly expanding organizational environment.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification (or working towards).
