Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Coordinator to join our team, based in Wheaton, Illinois. This critical role will be instrumental in upholding Hydro One’s unwavering commitment to health and safety standards within our operational framework. As a Safety Coordinator, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational hazards across various work sites and facilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety programs and procedures in alignment with Hydro One standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments on work sites and facilities to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending effective preventative and corrective actions.
  • Deliver engaging and informative safety training sessions to employees on various topics, including hazard recognition, emergency response, and equipment operation.
  • Ensure all safety documentation, including permits, reports, and records, are accurately maintained and readily accessible.
  • Provide expert advice and support to management and employees on all aspects of occupational health and safety.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety considerations into all operational planning and project execution.
  • Stay current with local, state, and federal safety regulations and industry best practices to ensure continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Lead safety meetings and promote a culture of proactive safety awareness and accountability among all personnel.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in a dedicated safety role, preferably within utilities, construction, or a related industrial sector.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant health and safety standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training programs.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • Professional safety certification (e.g., CSP, CHST, OHST).
  • Experience with safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
