Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on electrical transmission and distribution equipment, including poles, lines, transformers, and substations.
  • Operate and monitor control systems, gauges, and other equipment to ensure optimal performance and adherence to operational standards.
  • Respond promptly to power outages, equipment failures, and other emergency situations, diagnosing issues and executing corrective actions.
  • Conduct switching operations, grounding, and lockout/tagout procedures safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of all inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and incidents.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
  • Collaborate with engineering, control room, and other field teams to coordinate operations and resolve complex issues.
  • Utilize specialized tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment safely and effectively.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with industry best practices and technological advancements.
  • Provide excellent customer service during interactions with property owners or the public, representing Hydro One professionally.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical utility operations, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, circuits, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and operational diagrams.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and problem-solving electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid Class D driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), climb, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be on-call for emergencies.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and promoting safety awareness.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or trade certification in Electrical Technology, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and other control room technologies.
  • Prior experience operating heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, or forklifts.
  • Familiarity with local electrical codes and regulatory requirements.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
