Job Description
As a Project Engineer at Enbridge in Elgin, Illinois, you will be instrumental in the successful planning, execution, and completion of critical energy infrastructure projects. This role involves a diverse range of responsibilities, from conceptual design and feasibility studies to detailed engineering, construction oversight, and project close-out. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including operations, environmental, regulatory, safety, and construction contractors, to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with Enbridge’s stringent safety standards and all applicable regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all engineering aspects of assigned capital projects from initiation through close-out, ensuring strict adherence to scope, schedule, and budget targets.
- Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, develop clear project scopes, and prepare detailed engineering designs, specifications, and accurate cost estimates.
- Coordinate effectively with internal stakeholders (e.g., operations, environmental, safety, land, regulatory) and external contractors to ensure seamless project execution.
- Oversee construction activities, rigorously ensuring compliance with design specifications, established safety protocols, environmental regulations, and robust quality standards.
- Perform thorough risk assessments and proactively develop comprehensive mitigation strategies for potential project challenges and unforeseen issues.
- Prepare and present insightful project progress reports, precise technical documents, and engaging presentations to senior management and diverse stakeholders.
- Ensure all project activities strictly comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and leading industry best practices.
- Manage change orders, RFIs (Requests for Information), and all other project documentation efficiently and systematically.
- Foster a strong, proactive safety culture across all project sites and ensure all project personnel strictly adhere to Enbridge's comprehensive safety management systems.
- Participate actively in commissioning and start-up activities for new or modified facilities, ensuring operational readiness.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum, or a closely related field).
- 4+ years of progressive experience in project engineering or project management, preferably within the oil and gas, pipeline, utility, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Strong understanding and application of project management principles, including comprehensive scope, schedule, budget, and risk management.
- Proficiency with engineering design software and industry-standard project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple complex projects concurrently and consistently meet tight deadlines.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., DOT, API, ASME).
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license or the ability to obtain one in Illinois.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration.
- Extensive experience with pipeline integrity management or operations.
- Familiarity with environmental permitting processes and land acquisition procedures for large-scale infrastructure projects.
