Job Description
Qantas Airways is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Flight Operations Coordinator to join our dynamic team in Rome, Italy. Based in a crucial European hub, the Flight Operations Coordinator will act as a central point of contact for flight crews, ground staff, and other departments, coordinating various aspects of flight preparation, execution, and post-flight administration. You will be responsible for real-time monitoring of flights, managing diversions, delays, and cancellations, and implementing contingency plans to minimize disruption. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor active flights in real-time, tracking aircraft position, weather conditions, and air traffic control restrictions.
- Liaise directly with flight crews, ground operations, maintenance, and air traffic control to resolve operational issues.
- Manage and coordinate flight delays, cancellations, and diversions, implementing effective recovery plans.
- Prepare and disseminate flight briefings, NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen), and other critical operational information.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant aviation regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all flight operations activities and incidents.
- Assist in optimizing flight plans and fuel efficiency where applicable.
- Coordinate crew changes, accommodation, and transport as necessary during disruptions.
- Utilize operational software and communication systems effectively for data input and analysis.
- Provide administrative support to the Flight Operations department as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in airline operations, airport ground handling, or a similar aviation role.
- Strong understanding of aviation terminology, regulations (EASA, ICAO), and operational procedures.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effective liaison with diverse teams.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions quickly under pressure.
- Proficiency in using operational software and flight tracking systems.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Flight Dispatcher or Operations Controller.
- Knowledge of Italian language (written and spoken).
- A degree or diploma in Aviation Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with Qantas-specific operational systems and procedures.
- Type rating or certification in relevant aviation systems.
