Key Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload passenger baggage, cargo, and mail onto and from aircraft, ensuring proper weight distribution and secure placement.
- Operate various ground support equipment, including tugs, belt loaders, and forklifts, following strict safety protocols.
- Sort and transfer baggage to correct flights and designated areas within the airport terminal and baggage handling systems.
- Adhere strictly to all Qantas and airport authority safety regulations, security procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Conduct pre-operational checks and report any malfunctions or damage to equipment.
- Communicate effectively with team members, flight crew, and supervisors to ensure efficient turnaround times.
- Assist passengers with inquiries regarding their luggage when required, providing friendly and helpful service.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment on the ramp and in baggage areas.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy luggage (up to 70 lbs/32 kg) frequently and for extended periods.
- Strong understanding and commitment to safety procedures in an airport environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive setting and adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Availability to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, as operational needs dictate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physical labor role, warehouse, or airport operations.
- Experience operating ground support equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
