Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team with an immediate start, contributing to critical projects in the Middletown area. This role is essential for ensuring the integrity, reliability, and optimal performance of mechanical systems across our operations. As a Mechanical Engineer at BP, you will be instrumental in the design, analysis, maintenance, and continuous improvement of various mechanical equipment, including pipelines, rotating machinery, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers. Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical design, analysis, and optimization of critical plant equipment and systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards and BP specifications.
- Conduct root cause analysis for mechanical failures, developing and implementing corrective and preventative actions to enhance asset reliability.
- Manage and oversee mechanical integrity programs, including inspection planning, repair strategies, and risk assessments for pressure vessels, piping, and rotating equipment.
- Collaborate with project teams on new installations, modifications, and upgrades, providing expert mechanical engineering input from concept to commissioning.
- Develop and review technical specifications, engineering drawings, and maintenance procedures for various mechanical assets.
- Provide technical support and guidance to operations and maintenance personnel on mechanical issues, ensuring safe and efficient resolution.
- Utilize advanced engineering software and tools for stress analysis, fluid dynamics, and predictive maintenance.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with BP's safety standards, environmental regulations, and relevant industry codes (e.g., ASME, API).
- Participate in HAZOP studies, risk assessments, and incident investigations to promote a culture of continuous safety improvement.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and energy efficiency improvements within mechanical systems.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and engineering analysis tools.
- Demonstrated experience with rotating equipment, pressure vessels, piping systems, and heat exchangers.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with reliability centered maintenance (RCM) and predictive maintenance technologies.
- Knowledge of process safety management (PSM) principles.
- Experience with project management methodologies and tools.
- Familiarity with industrial control systems and instrumentation relevant to mechanical equipment.
