Job Description
Chevron is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer to join our team in West End, Hartford. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage Health, Environment, and Safety (HES) programs and policies in alignment with Chevron’s global standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local HES regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other industry-specific standards.
- Lead and participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the development of preventive measures to mitigate reoccurrence.
- Design and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees and contractors on topics such as hazard recognition, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
- Prepare and maintain accurate HES records, reports, and documentation, ensuring timely submission to regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
- Promote a robust safety culture through proactive communication, engagement initiatives, and leadership visibility.
- Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
- Collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to address HES concerns and facilitate continuous improvement in safety performance.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Safety Officer, HES Specialist, or similar role in an industrial or corporate setting.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, environmental compliance, and other relevant HES standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of delivering effective training and presentations.
- Proficiency in safety management systems and software.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a strong safety culture and influence positive behavioral changes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional safety certification (e.g., CSP, CIH, OHST).
- Experience in the oil & gas, chemical manufacturing, or heavy industrial sector.
- Knowledge of process safety management (PSM) principles.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
