Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and analyze mechanical components and systems for automotive applications, utilizing CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, CATIA).
- Perform detailed engineering calculations, simulations (FEA, CFD), and analyses to validate designs and predict performance.
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and bill of materials (BOMs).
- Develop and execute test plans for prototypes and production parts, analyze results, and implement design improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
- Identify and resolve design issues, root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering and automotive design.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to meet development milestones.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and internal GM specifications.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design and development, preferably within the automotive industry
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, CATIA)
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse teams
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Knowledge of materials science and manufacturing processes relevant to automotive components
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience with electric vehicle (EV) component design or propulsion systems
- Knowledge of automotive industry standards and regulations (e.g., SAE, ISO/TS 16949)
- Project management experience in an engineering environment
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification
