Job Description
As a UX Designer at Google, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our products and user experiences. Based in our dynamic Swindon hub, you will be instrumental in translating complex user needs and business requirements into intuitive, elegant, and impactful designs. This role demands a holistic approach to design, encompassing user research, ideation, wireframing, prototyping, and user testing. You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, researchers, and other designers throughout the entire product development lifecycle, passionately advocating for the user at every stage. You’ll be expected to understand and articulate the ‘why’ behind your design decisions, leveraging data, user insights, and design principles to craft solutions that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional and user-centric. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive user research to identify user needs, pain points, and behaviors.
- Translate research findings into user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and researchers to define and implement innovative solutions for product direction, visuals, and experience.
- Iterate on designs based on user feedback, technical constraints, and business goals.
- Present and defend design decisions to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Contribute to and maintain design systems and guidelines to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Champion user-centered design principles throughout the product development process.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, tools, and best practices in UX/UI design.
Required Skills
- Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional UX/UI design skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar.
- Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture, and usability heuristics.
- Experience conducting and synthesizing user research (interviews, usability testing, surveys).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and agile environment.
- Experience designing for various platforms (web, mobile, desktop).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Experience with motion design and interaction animation.
- Basic understanding of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to better understand technical constraints.
- Experience working on large-scale, complex products.
- Familiarity with Google's Material Design guidelines.
