Job Description

Are you a highly skilled and detail-oriented aviation professional with a passion for ensuring safe and efficient flight operations? Air Canada is seeking an experienced Flight Dispatcher to join our critical operational team in Houston, Texas. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for co-authoring the operational flight plan and exercising joint operational control with the Pilot-in-Command, ensuring all flights comply with company policies, government regulations, and international standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Exercise joint operational control with the Pilot-in-Command in planning and monitoring flights.
  • Prepare, review, and issue comprehensive operational flight plans, considering weather, NOTAMs, aircraft performance, and air traffic control requirements.
  • Monitor the progress of flights in real-time, providing crews with pertinent information and making critical decisions regarding diversions, re-routing, or fuel adjustments.
  • Analyze meteorological data, significant weather charts, and forecasts to ensure optimal route selection and adherence to safety margins.
  • Communicate effectively with flight crews, air traffic control, ground operations, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of aviation regulations (FAA, Transport Canada, ICAO) and company operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with maintenance control to ensure aircraft airworthiness and minimize operational disruptions.
  • Assist in emergency response procedures and provide critical support during irregular operations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed operational records and logs.

Required Skills

  • Valid FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate (ADX)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Flight Dispatcher with a commercial airline or equivalent.
  • Profound understanding of FAA regulations, ICAO standards, and aviation meteorology.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make swift, informed decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in flight planning software, weather analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong geographical knowledge and understanding of global airspace structures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Meteorology, or a related field.
  • Experience with Airbus and Boeing aircraft types commonly operated by Air Canada.
  • Previous experience working in an international airline operational environment.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset for Air Canada's operational context.
  • Familiarity with Air Canada's specific operational software and systems.
