Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic team in Cambridge, England. This critical role will be instrumental in optimizing our production processes, ensuring the highest standards of efficiency, quality, and safety in the manufacturing of complex aerospace components and systems. The successful candidate will be a hands-on problem-solver, adept at identifying bottlenecks, implementing lean manufacturing principles, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across various production lines. You will work closely with design engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to translate engineering designs into robust, repeatable, and cost-effective manufacturing processes. This includes the development and implementation of new manufacturing techniques, machinery, and tools, as well as the optimization of existing workflows. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining detailed process documentation, conducting root cause analysis for production issues, and leading improvement projects from conception to completion. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to drive continuous improvement in production.
  • Develop and maintain detailed manufacturing work instructions, process flow diagrams, and control plans.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering to ensure manufacturability of new products and provide DFM (Design for Manufacturability) input.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for production discrepancies and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Specify, evaluate, and procure new equipment and tooling, ensuring successful integration into production.
  • Provide technical support and training to production personnel on new processes and equipment.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams for process improvement projects and new product introductions (NPI).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, quality, and environmental regulations and standards.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for manufacturing processes and report on performance.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in manufacturing process development and optimization within a relevant industry.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping).
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD) for design and analysis.
  • Experience with production planning, scheduling, and control systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of working effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) integration in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards and regulations (e.g., AS9100).
  • Experience in advanced manufacturing techniques such such as additive manufacturing, automation, or robotics.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP or PRINCE2).
