Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM AIX operating systems and IBM Power Systems hardware.
- Perform routine system health checks, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Implement and manage system backups, recovery plans, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
- Apply patches, updates, and security fixes to ensure system integrity and compliance.
- Manage user accounts, access controls, and security policies.
- Collaborate with other IT teams (network, storage, database) to resolve complex issues.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support as required.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and junior administrators.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of new IT infrastructure projects.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a System Administrator with a focus on IBM technologies.
- Strong expertise in IBM AIX operating system administration.
- Solid understanding of IBM Power Systems hardware (pSeries, iSeries).
- Experience with LPAR (Logical Partitioning) and VIOS (Virtual I/O Server) management.
- Proficiency in shell scripting (Korn shell, Bash) for automation.
- Familiarity with storage area networks (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX.
- Experience with IBM storage solutions (e.g., Storwize, FlashSystem).
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM) in an IBM context.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Tivoli).
- Experience with ITIL frameworks and practices.
