Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate delivery vehicles of various sizes to transport home improvement products to residential and commercial customer locations and job sites.
- Accurately load and unload merchandise, ensuring careful handling to prevent damage and verifying contents against shipping documents.
- Provide exceptional customer service during deliveries, professionally addressing inquiries, resolving minor issues, and representing Lowe's with a positive attitude.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly to management.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations, including those related to vehicle operation and manual handling.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-maintained delivery vehicle and ensure the delivery area is kept tidy.
- Assist with warehouse duties, including picking, packing, and staging orders, when not actively engaged in delivery routes.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, customers, and other team members regarding delivery status, potential delays, and any special instructions.
- Accurately complete all necessary paperwork, including delivery manifests, customer receipts, and vehicle logs.
- Manage delivery schedules to ensure timely arrivals and departures, adapting to unforeseen circumstances with a solutions-oriented approach.
Required Skills
- Valid UK driving license (Category B minimum, Category C1 preferred for larger vehicles).
- Clean driving record with no major endorsements or accidents within the last three years.
- Proven experience in a delivery, transport, or logistics role for a minimum of 2 years.
- Exceptional customer service and strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 25kg) repeatedly and perform physical tasks associated with loading/unloading.
- Strong geographical knowledge of Leeds and surrounding areas, including efficient route planning.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Unwavering commitment to safety and strict adherence to all road safety regulations and company protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating larger delivery vans or light goods vehicles (LGVs) with a proven track record of safe operation.
- Previous experience using handheld delivery devices, GPS navigation, or route optimization software.
- Familiarity with home improvement products, construction materials, or large retail goods.
- Forklift certification or experience operating other material handling equipment (desirable but not essential).
- A positive, proactive, and problem-solving attitude.
