Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine quality checks and inspections on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods according to established procedures and specifications.
- Conduct various laboratory tests (e.g., pH, Brix, sensory evaluations, microbiological plating) to ensure product quality and safety standards are met.
- Accurately record and document all test results, observations, and non-conformances in quality control logs and systems.
- Assist in the investigation of quality deviations, identify root causes, and support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and other food safety programs.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper calibration of laboratory equipment and testing areas.
- Collaborate with production, warehousing, and other departments to communicate quality findings and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in training new employees on quality control procedures and standards.
- Prepare samples for external laboratory analysis and manage sample retention.
- Ensure compliance with all internal quality policies, food safety regulations, and external legal requirements.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in a science-related field preferred.
- Minimum of 12 months of experience in a quality control, manufacturing, or food processing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data recording and analysis.
- Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
- Ability to follow precise instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration.
- Basic computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of food safety principles (e.g., GMP, HACCP) is an asset.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and work in varied plant conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Previous experience with sensory evaluation techniques for food and beverage products.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (QMS) software.
- Certification in HACCP, SQF, or other food safety programs.
- Experience operating and calibrating analytical instruments.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain one.
