Key Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, verify appointments, and guide them through the intake process with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Prepare patients for examination by taking medical histories, recording vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height), and documenting all relevant information in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Assist practitioners during examinations and minor surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile and organised environment.
  • Perform basic diagnostic tests as directed by the clinician, such as urinalysis, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Manage and maintain patient records, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with all data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, manage referral processes, and coordinate with other healthcare providers.
  • Handle patient inquiries, provide instructions, and relay prescription information or test results as authorised by the clinician.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of examination rooms, sterilise instruments, and ensure adequate stock of supplies.
  • Educate patients on basic health information, treatment plans, and follow-up care as advised by the clinician.
  • Adhere strictly to all UnitedHealth Group policies, procedures, and relevant healthcare regulations and standards.

Required Skills

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent qualification from an accredited program.
  • Proficiency in taking vital signs and performing basic clinical procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong patient-focused approach.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and professionalism when interacting with patients and colleagues.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and clinical procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant or Healthcare Assistant in a clinical setting (e.g., GP practice, hospital outpatient clinic).
  • Experience with specific EMR systems relevant to the UK healthcare sector.
  • Knowledge of local healthcare regulations and patient pathways in Manchester, England.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification.
