Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Structural Engineer with a Professional Engineer (PE) designation to join our dynamic team in Quebec City. As a Structural Engineer at Bechtel, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of structural systems for various industrial, commercial, and infrastructure developments. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex structural analysis and design for various materials including steel, concrete, and masonry, using industry-standard software.
- Develop detailed engineering calculations, specifications, and construction drawings in accordance with relevant national and provincial building codes (e.g., NBC, NBCC) and industry standards.
- Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, project managers, and other disciplines to integrate structural designs seamlessly into overall project plans.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of designs, drawings, and specifications prepared by other engineers or external consultants to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and conducting site visits to observe construction progress and quality.
- Participate in risk assessments and value engineering exercises to optimize structural solutions for cost-effectiveness, constructability, and performance.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and methodologies in structural engineering.
- Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner, adhering to Bechtel’s rigorous safety standards and protocols.
Required Skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Quebec, Canada, or eligibility for immediate registration.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in structural engineering design.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, or equivalent.
- Expert knowledge of Canadian building codes, particularly the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit for structural drafting and modeling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in heavy industrial, power, mining, or large infrastructure projects.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software.
- Familiarity with international building codes and standards.
