Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty diesel trucks for the transport of goods over long distances or designated regional routes.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting any issues or defects.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, federal, state, and local traffic laws, and company safety policies.
- Maintain accurate electronic logs (ELD) and all required paperwork, including bills of lading and delivery receipts.
- Ensure timely and efficient delivery of freight, communicating any delays or issues to dispatch.
- Secure cargo properly for transport, utilizing appropriate restraints and following established procedures.
- Represent Werner Enterprises professionally to customers, vendors, and the public.
- Manage fuel stops and route planning efficiently to optimize delivery schedules.
- Collaborate effectively with dispatch, warehouse personnel, and other team members.
- Participate in ongoing training and safety programs as required by the company.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A)
- Minimum of 1 year verifiable commercial driving experience
- Clean driving record (MVR) with no major preventable accidents or violations
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and ELD compliance
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 lbs as needed
- Basic mechanical knowledge for minor roadside adjustments and inspections
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with diverse freight types and trailer configurations (e.g., dry van, refrigerated)
- Proficiency with in-cab technology and navigation systems
- Proven track record of safe driving practices and on-time deliveries
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
