Job Description

Old Dominion Freight Line is actively seeking dedicated and professional Class A CDL Long Haul Truck Drivers to join our dynamic team in Kansas City, Missouri. As a Long Haul Truck Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of freight across varying distances, primarily focusing on line haul operations between our service centers. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a Class A commercial motor vehicle (tractor-trailer) for extended periods, adhering to all DOT regulations and company policies.
  • Transport freight between Old Dominion Freight Line service centers and customer locations across designated long-haul routes.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting any defects or issues.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of freight, checking documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain electronic logs (ELDs) in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Secure freight properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members regarding load status, delays, and any issues encountered.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safety standards, promoting a safe work environment.
  • Represent Old Dominion Freight Line professionally at all times.
  • Perform minor roadside repairs if necessary and safe to do so.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with HazMat endorsement (or willingness to obtain within 90 days)
  • Minimum of 2 years (24 months) verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major preventable accidents or moving violations within the last 3 years
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations and ELD requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and reliability
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull freight weighing up to 70 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with LTL (Less-than-Truckload) freight operations
  • Proven track record of safe driving performance
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to operate a forklift or pallet jack (training provided)
