Dallas ISD is seeking dedicated Part-Time School Bus Drivers to join our essential transportation team in Dallas, Texas. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus on designated routes, adhering to strict schedules and district procedures.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure operational safety and promptly report any defects or maintenance needs.
- Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior for student comfort and hygiene.
- Ensure the proper and safe loading and unloading of students at designated stops and school locations.
- Manage student behavior on the bus according to district policies, promoting a respectful, disciplined, and secure environment.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, school staff, and transportation supervisors regarding routes, schedules, and student conduct.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, school bus regulations (state and federal), and district transportation policies.
- Attend mandatory safety meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development sessions.
- Administer basic first aid if necessary and respond to emergency situations in a calm, efficient, and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and student ridership as required by district and state regulations.
Required Skills
- Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe with our support.
- Clean driving record free of major violations.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, fingerprinting, and pre-employment and random drug screenings.
- Excellent knowledge of Texas traffic laws and school bus safety regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with children and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine concern for the safety and well-being of children.
- Ability to work independently while adhering to strict schedules and procedures.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds, assisting students with disabilities, and operating emergency equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience as a bus driver, particularly transporting school children or in a similar professional driving role.
- Familiarity with Dallas area roadways and school locations.
- Basic mechanical aptitude to identify and report minor vehicle issues effectively.
