Key Responsibilities
- Manage general ledger, including preparing journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian GAAP (or IFRS, as applicable).
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, meeting strict deadlines.
- Support internal and external audit activities by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Perform variance analysis and investigate discrepancies, providing insights to management.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations, assisting with GST/HST filings and other tax-related tasks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve accounting processes and systems.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities as required.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS) and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables).
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen eligible for work authorization in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation (or equivalent, such as Canadian CPA or actively pursuing).
- Experience working with Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations.
- Experience in a public accounting firm or a multinational organization.
- Familiarity with financial planning and analysis (FP&A) concepts.
- Proficiency in additional data analysis tools or financial modeling.
