Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Financial Controller to join our leadership team in Portsmouth, England. This is a pivotal role that requires a strategic thinker with a strong operational focus, responsible for leading all aspects of the company’s financial accounting, reporting, and control functions. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the financial health and integrity of our operations, providing robust financial insights to support business growth and strategic decision-making. You will oversee the preparation of accurate financial statements, manage budgeting and forecasting processes, and ensure strict compliance with financial regulations and internal policies. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the finance team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee all daily financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and treasury functions.
  • Prepare and present accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and UK GAAP.
  • Manage and drive the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory reporting requirements, tax regulations (VAT, Corporation Tax), and company policies.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial controls, processes, and systems to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
  • Provide insightful financial analysis, variance explanations, and strategic recommendations to senior management to support business decisions.
  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and foreign exchange exposure to optimize financial performance.
  • Coordinate and manage external audits, acting as the primary point of contact for auditors and other external stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and revenue enhancement.
  • Participate in strategic projects and initiatives, lending financial expertise to cross-functional teams.

Required Skills

  • Fully qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA (or equivalent) with a strong academic background.
  • Minimum of 6 years post-qualification experience in a senior finance role, ideally within a multinational or technology-focused business.
  • Expert knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP.
  • Demonstrable experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities, with a track record of developing finance professionals.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the security solutions, electronics manufacturing, or technology industry.
  • Experience with multi-currency operations and consolidation processes.
  • Familiarity with financial planning and analysis (FP&A) software.
  • Previous experience with system implementation or upgrade projects.
  • A Master's degree in Finance or Business Administration.
