Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of clients using cloud-based accounting software (primarily Xero and QuickBooks).
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and other balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Process purchase invoices, sales invoices, and expense claims efficiently and accurately.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to resolve queries and gather necessary financial information.
  • Generate financial reports (e.g., P&L, balance sheets) to provide insights to clients and internal teams.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are recorded correctly and comply with accounting standards.
  • Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies, escalating complex issues to senior accountants when necessary.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar financial role (minimum 2 years).
  • Proficiency in cloud accounting software, particularly Xero and/or QuickBooks Online.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping best practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple client accounts effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AAT qualification or equivalent bookkeeping certification.
  • Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment.
  • Familiarity with other accounting software or practice management tools.
  • Prior experience working within an accountancy practice.
  • Knowledge of payroll processing (PAYE).
