Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Project Manager with a strong engineering background to join our dynamic team in Coquitlam, British Columbia. This critical role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of engineering projects, from conception and planning through execution, monitoring, and closure. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing significant capital improvement projects, plant upgrades, and operational efficiency initiatives within our aggregates, concrete, or asphalt divisions. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage engineering projects from initiation to close-out, ensuring adherence to project scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including detailed work breakdown structures, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
- Define project objectives, scope, and deliverables in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
- Oversee project execution, monitoring progress, managing changes, and ensuring timely completion of milestones.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and expenditures, ensuring financial targets are met.
- Coordinate and direct project teams, including internal staff, contractors, and consultants, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Ensure strict compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Communicate project status, issues, and risks effectively to all stakeholders through regular reports and presentations.
- Facilitate procurement processes, including contractor selection, contract negotiation, and vendor management.
- Conduct post-project evaluations to identify lessons learned and implement best practices for future projects.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives in project management methodologies and tools.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial preferred)
- 5+ years of progressive experience in project management, specifically within an engineering or industrial setting.
- Proven experience managing capital projects and/or significant plant maintenance/upgrade initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PMP, Agile).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
- Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience in the heavy building materials, mining, or manufacturing industries.
- Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with sustainable construction practices and green building initiatives.
- Master's degree in Engineering Management or a related field.
