Key Responsibilities
- Operate tractor-trailer units safely and efficiently for long-haul routes across Canada and potentially into the US.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles, systems, and equipment.
- Ensure cargo is properly secured and compliant with weight distribution regulations.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, manifests, invoices, and other documentation using electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, federal and provincial transportation regulations, and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members.
- Monitor vehicle performance and mechanical fitness, promptly reporting any issues.
- Represent Bison Transport professionally at all times.
- Manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules.
- Handle basic vehicle maintenance tasks and perform emergency roadside repairs if necessary.
Required Skills
- Valid Class 1A Commercial Driver's License.
- Minimum 2 years (24 months) verifiable long-haul driving experience.
- Clean Commercial Driver's Abstract and safety record.
- Ability to operate manual and automatic transmissions.
- Proficient in English (spoken and written) for communication and logbook completion.
- Strong understanding of Hours of Service (HoS) regulations and ELD usage.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and carry objects up to 50 lbs and perform duties requiring bending, climbing, and sitting for extended periods.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cross-border (Canada-US) operations.
- Valid FAST Card or US travel credentials (e.g., valid US visa if non-Canadian citizen).
- Experience with various types of freight (e.g., dry van, reefer).
- Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to changing road conditions or schedules.
