Job Description

Are you a safety-conscious individual with a passion for serving your community? Metro Transit is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic City Bus Drivers to join our team in Minneapolis, Minnesota. No prior bus driving experience? No CDL? No problem! We offer comprehensive, paid training to help you obtain your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and master the skills needed to confidently navigate our routes and safely transport passengers. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate transit buses safely and efficiently over designated routes on a fixed schedule.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
  • Provide excellent customer service, including assisting passengers with disabilities, answering questions, and addressing concerns professionally.
  • Collect fares, issue transfers, and ensure accurate passenger counts.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and other personnel.
  • Respond to emergencies or incidents according to established procedures.
  • Manage passenger behavior to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all.

Required Skills

  • Valid driver's license for at least 3 years with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger and airbrake endorsements within the training period.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical ability to sit for extended periods, operate foot pedals, and reach various controls.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service role.
  • Familiarity with the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area road network.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude or basic vehicle knowledge.
