Job Description

NHS Grampian invites applications for a dedicated and compassionate Registered Dietitian to join our dynamic Nutrition and Dietetics team in Aberdeen. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments, identifying dietary needs and risks for individual patients.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based, individualised nutrition care plans across various clinical areas.
  • Provide expert dietary advice, education, and counselling to patients, their families, and carers.
  • Monitor and review patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to optimise outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to ensure holistic and integrated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient records in compliance with professional and organisational standards.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, training sessions, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Contribute to the development, audit, and evaluation of dietetic services and patient pathways.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, dietetic students, or support workers as required, fostering their development.
  • Adhere strictly to professional codes of conduct, clinical guidelines, and all NHS Grampian policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • BSc or PGDip/MSc in Dietetics from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Demonstrable clinical experience in a range of dietetic specialties (placement experience considered for newly qualified dietitians).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counselling skills, capable of building rapport with diverse individuals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a capacity for critical thinking.
  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in using IT systems and electronic patient record systems.
  • A strong commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-registration clinical experience in a specific specialist area (e.g., critical care, paediatrics, diabetes, gastroenterology).
  • Experience in supervising, mentoring, or teaching dietetic students or junior colleagues.
  • Involvement in audit, research, or service development projects to enhance practice.
  • Membership of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).
  • Full UK driving license and access to a car, particularly beneficial for community-based roles.
