Job Description

Are you a compassionate, responsible, and energetic individual with a passion for childcare? Saanich Commonwealth Place is seeking enthusiastic Babysitters to join our team on a flexible, part-time basis. This vital role involves providing engaging, safe, and nurturing care for children while their parents or guardians participate in programs and activities within our facility, or during special events. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive, safe, and engaging care for children during assigned shifts, adhering to established safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities, games, crafts, and educational play that encourage development and interaction.
  • Supervise children closely, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times within designated childcare areas.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and child-friendly environment, including tidying up play areas and sanitizing toys.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/guardians regarding their child's activities, behavior, and any notable incidents or achievements.
  • Administer basic first aid if necessary, following established procedures and documenting incidents.
  • Assist children with personal needs such as snacks, drinks, and washroom breaks, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless operations and a positive experience for all patrons.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling to meet the varying needs of the facility and community programs.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year (12 months) of experience in childcare, babysitting, or a related field.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and interact positively with children of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Ability to maintain composure and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Patience, creativity, and a genuine love for working with children.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification or completion of relevant childcare courses.
  • Experience working in a recreational facility or organized childcare setting.
  • Knowledge of child development stages and age-appropriate activities.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is an asset.
