Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, adhering strictly to established protocols and safety standards.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Monitor and document patient vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatments, escalating concerns as necessary.
- Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in complex clinical situations.
- Advocate for patients' needs and rights, ensuring a patient-centered approach to care.
- Supervise and mentor junior nursing staff, students, and other healthcare providers as required.
Required Skills
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
- Demonstrated strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Commitment to patient safety and quality care.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of recent acute care experience in a hospital setting.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (if applicable to unit).
- Specialized certifications (e.g., Critical Care, Emergency Nursing) relevant to the area of practice.
- Demonstrated experience in a tertiary care or regional health centre.
- Membership in a professional nursing organization (e.g., RNAO).
