Job Description
Are you a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a profound passion for music and the intricate workings of the entertainment industry? Productions J is seeking a dynamic Music Publishing Coordinator to join our dedicated team in Longueuil, Quebec. This pivotal role involves supporting our various production teams by expertly managing music rights, licensing, and all administrative tasks related to music usage across our extensive range of projects, including acclaimed television shows, engaging films, and innovative digital content. You will be instrumental in ensuring that all musical elements adhere strictly to legal and contractual obligations, working closely and collaboratively with composers, artists, external music publishers, and internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
- Administer music publishing agreements, licenses, and contracts for all Productions J projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate effectively with music publishers, rights holders, and composers to efficiently clear music rights for use in various productions.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate databases and tracking systems for music assets, usage, and associated payments.
- Prepare and process royalty statements and payments, diligently ensuring adherence to all contractual terms and deadlines.
- Assist in the strategic budget management for music licensing and publishing, diligently tracking all expenditures.
- Review production schedules to proactively anticipate music needs and address licensing requirements well in advance.
- Act as a primary liaison between production teams, legal counsel, and external music partners, fostering strong relationships.
- Ensure all music metadata is accurately documented, categorized, and entered into internal systems for efficient retrieval.
- Research and identify new and emerging music talent and catalog for potential integration into future projects.
- Stay comprehensively up-to-date with industry trends, evolving copyright laws, and music publishing best practices to ensure continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in music publishing, rights management, or a related administrative role within the entertainment industry.
- Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, capable of managing complex information.
- Strong foundational understanding of music copyright, licensing frameworks, and publishing principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with database management systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and French (bilingualism is considered a very strong asset in Quebec).
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced production environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as an integral part of a collaborative team.
- Strong problem-solving aptitude coupled with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Entertainment Management, Legal Studies, or a closely related field.
- Familiarity with industry-standard music rights management software (e.g., PRS, SOCAN, ASCAP, BMI portals).
- Experience with budgeting, financial tracking, and cost analysis related to intellectual property.
- An existing professional network within the vibrant Quebec music industry.
