Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of drivers, dispatchers, and operational staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Oversee daily dispatch operations, ensuring optimal load planning, route efficiency, and adherence to delivery schedules.
- Monitor and analyze operational performance metrics, identifying trends, and implementing corrective actions to meet and exceed targets.
- Ensure strict compliance with all company safety policies, transportation regulations (e.g., hours of service, hazardous materials), and environmental standards.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure the fleet is well-maintained, minimizing downtime and maximizing asset utilization.
- Manage operational budgets, control costs, and identify opportunities for efficiency gains without compromising service quality or safety.
- Act as a primary point of contact for customer inquiries and service issues, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Implement and enforce operational procedures and best practices to streamline workflows and improve overall efficiency.
- Participate in the recruitment, training, and performance management of operational personnel.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on operational activities, performance, and forecasts for senior management.
Required Skills
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in transportation or logistics operations management, preferably in bulk or heavy haul.
- Proven leadership and team management abilities with experience supervising 15+ employees.
- Strong understanding of DOT, NSC, and other relevant transportation regulations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify operational issues, and implement effective solutions.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs for heavy-duty vehicles.
- Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) or other relevant industry certifications.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
