Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Farm Manager to lead our agricultural operations on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity for a dedicated professional to oversee all facets of our farm management, from strategic crop planning to daily operational leadership. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage detailed annual and seasonal crop plans, including variety selection, planting schedules, cultivation, and harvesting strategies for various agricultural products.
- Lead, motivate, and manage a team of farm workers, overseeing their training, performance, and adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
- Optimize irrigation and fertilization programs, monitoring soil health and nutrient levels to ensure optimal crop growth and yield.
- Design and execute effective integrated pest and disease management programs, minimizing environmental impact while protecting crop integrity.
- Manage the operation, maintenance, and repair of all farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Prepare and manage farm budgets, control operational expenses, and provide regular reports on farm performance, production, and financial metrics.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal agricultural regulations, environmental protection laws, and food safety standards.
- Identify, evaluate, and integrate new agricultural technologies and sustainable farming methods to improve efficiency, productivity, and environmental footprint.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including sales, marketing, and logistics teams, to ensure timely and quality produce delivery to market.
- Maintain meticulous records of all farm activities, including planting, harvesting, yields, input applications, and labor utilization.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in commercial farm management, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
- Proven expertise in diversified crop cultivation, ideally in tropical or subtropical environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of sustainable agriculture, organic farming principles, and advanced IPM techniques.
- Proficiency in operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining various types of agricultural machinery and irrigation systems.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience in budget development, cost control, and performance reporting.
- Thorough understanding of agricultural regulations, environmental compliance, and food safety standards.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to operate farm vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal) is essential for effective communication and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Science, or a closely related field.
- Experience with GIS or other agricultural software for mapping, planning, and record-keeping.
- Knowledge of local Hawaiian agricultural practices, unique microclimates, and indigenous plant species.
- Prior experience managing specialty crops such as pineapple, coffee, or other tropical fruits.
- Certification in specific agricultural practices (e.g., organic certification, pesticide application).
