Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical examination, medical history review, and diagnostic test interpretation, to determine an accurate diagnosis and prognosis.
- Develop and implement individualized physical therapy treatment plans based on patient needs, goals, and evidence-based practice.
- Administer therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, modalities (e.g., ultrasound, electrical stimulation), and other interventions.
- Educate patients and their families on proper body mechanics, therapeutic exercises, and home exercise programs to promote long-term health and independence.
- Monitor and document patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to optimize outcomes.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all patient evaluations, treatment sessions, and discharge summaries in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Participate in departmental meetings, inservice trainings, and continuing education activities to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
- Supervise and mentor physical therapy assistants and aides as appropriate, ensuring quality of care and adherence to professional standards.
Required Skills
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited program
- Current and unrestricted Physical Therapist license in West Virginia, or eligibility to obtain
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and patient education abilities
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to patient-centered care and ethical practice
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience in an acute care, outpatient, or rehabilitation setting
- Board certification in a specialty area (e.g., Orthopedics, Neurology, Geriatrics)
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
