Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture, capillary punctures, and other blood collection procedures accurately and efficiently on diverse patient populations (adult, pediatric, geriatric).
- Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling of specimens in strict accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain rigorous adherence to infection control, safety, and quality assurance standards to ensure a safe environment for both patients and staff.
- Provide compassionate, professional, and empathetic patient care, addressing concerns and ensuring comfort throughout the collection process.
- Prepare and process collected specimens for laboratory testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and appropriate storage as required.
- Manage and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness, calibration, and availability at all times.
- Accurately document all procedures, patient information, and specimen details in electronic systems and paper records.
- Communicate effectively and clearly with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals regarding procedures and specimen requirements.
- Adhere to all local, national, and company regulations, ethical guidelines, and patient confidentiality policies.
- Assist with patient registration, scheduling, and other administrative tasks as needed to ensure smooth workflow.
Required Skills
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification or an equivalent nationally recognized qualification.
- Minimum of 1 year of practical, hands-on experience as a Phlebotomist in a clinical or laboratory setting.
- Proven proficiency in various venipuncture techniques, including difficult draws, for diverse patient populations.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology relevant to blood collection.
- Exceptional attention to detail and unwavering accuracy in specimen collection, labeling, and processing.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and patient service skills.
- Ability to work effectively, efficiently, and calmly in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality (HIPAA/equivalent knowledge).
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry, record keeping, and utilizing laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Proficiency in English required; basic conversational Japanese language skills are a significant advantage for patient interaction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or Diploma in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a closely related healthcare field.
- Experience with advanced laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic health records (EHR).
- Knowledge of Japanese healthcare regulations, practices, and cultural nuances.
- Bilingual proficiency (Japanese and English) to effectively communicate with a broader patient demographic.
- Experience with arterial blood gas collection and other specialized collection procedures.
- Previous experience working in a large diagnostic laboratory or hospital setting.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
